March 19, 2003 / Week 24 Results

Congratulations go to 2 Men & A Lady for winning the second half, and the season!

Doubles Tournament on March 26

  • All regular bowlers are included. If you are unavailable that week, your blind score will be used for each game (i.e. your average minus 10 pins). Subs can bowl on March 26, but as pacers only.

  • Doubles pairs will be matched up based on average scores as of Week 24.  The highest average will be teamed with the lowest average, the second-highest average will be paired with the second-lowest average, and so forth.

  • Lane assignments will be the same as they were for Week 24. (And hopefully the lane 13-14 ball return will be on better behavior!)

DWBA Women's Tournament at Plaza Lanes

Both of our squads in this event are bowling on Saturday, March 22 at 2pm. Please come out and watch to support our women bowlers!  Our teams are:

  • Team "U 2" bowling on Lanes 7-8:  Guyla Kryka (captain), Theresa Belser, Jill Conway, Linda Marler, Diane Reno.

  • Team "Pink Ladies" bowling on Lanes 21-22: Kathy Wyrwas (captain), Denise Dunn, Denise Goldie, Becky Koerber, Nancy Waskiewicz.

Jockeying for First Place
Next week (March 19) is our last regular night of bowling. The team in first place at the end of the night will be the winner of the 2nd Half. Looks like it's going to be either KJD.com or 2 Men & A Lady

The following week (March 26) is our Doubles Tournament. Team KJD.com needs to earn all 7 points on March 19 to jump ahead of 2 Men & A Lady into first place. If they do, KJD.com and 2 Men & A Lady will be competing on March 26 to see which team is the overall season champ.

Doubles Tournament on March 26
How will the Doubles tournament work? Same as last year, in that all regular bowlers are included. If you are unavailable that week, your blind score will be used for each game (i.e. your average minus 10 pins). Subs can bowl on March 26, but as pacers only.

DWBA Women's Tournament at Plaza Lanes

Accomplishments
In the 1st frame of Game 2, Greg knocked down the 4-10 split!

*** AWARD NOMINATIONS NEEDED!!! ***

Do you feel that one of our bowlers (subs too!) deserves a "special" award that won't be covered by our usual prizes? Do you think we have a "most" or "best of" something that should be recognized?

The Greater Detroit Bowling Association has provided each league with a blank award plaque to use for whatever the league chooses. Please RSVP to Kathy with a suggestion or two on an award CATEGORY or criteria. After we have a category, then next week we can work on finding nominees. Or, if you already have someone in mind to nominate for a specific reason, please send that suggestion too. Thanks!

Bonus Prize from Plaza Lanes: Hotel Stay Giveaway
As a show of appreciation to all bowlers, Plaza Lanes also was giving away a prize to all leagues, using Mystery numbers in Game #1 to draw the winner. (That's why you kept hearing numbers drawn after we did get a Mystery winner.) The prize was a hotel package for 3 days and 2 nights at a hotel of your choice from about 80 locations. Our lucky winner of this nice surprise prize was Joe Maspero, on a score of 118.

DWBA Tournament Status

Perfectly, ten women agreed to participate in the next DWBA City Tournament starting in March. Three of our women (Becky Koerber, Adrienne Ray, and Kathy Wyrwas) will participate in the Singles event. Two of our women (Jill Conway and Kathy Wyrwas) will participate in the Doubles event. We have two 5-person teams. Team one includes Theresa Belser, Jill Conway, Guyla Kryka, Linda Marler, and Adrienne Ray. Team A includes Denise Dunn, Denise Goldie, Becky Koerber, Nancy Waskiewicz, and Kathy Wyrwas. The tournament entry sheets are not available. DWBA is still looking to complete the sponsor list. At this point, we need to ensure that Denise Dunn bowls as many games as possible. Since she has only 7 sanctioned games, she needs as many as possible before March so that she can earn a sanctioned average. If you need a sub, please consider Denise as your first choice (unless you need a male score). There's certainly some rule that defines how we handle this situation. I'll investigate and have answers at the time we submit our applications. The two teams should also select team captains. Finally, the two teams should consider team names, bowling order, and three dates after 1 March (Saturdays and Sunday) when all on that team can bowl.

The event features three divisions so everyone will be competing against others in their average category. Squad times are 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Because we will be scheduling three doubles on a pair of lanes it will take longer to bowl.
