Handicaps in our league are figured on an individual basis. A team handicap is simply the sum of a team's bowlers' individual handicaps.
Handicap is not affected by the other team you bowl against. It's always "against yourself" and determined from one's own average.
Our league bylaws state that our handicaps are calculated as "100% of 220"**, which means "100% of the difference between your average and 220". For example, if your average is 154, your handicap is 220 minus 154, which is 66.
If your average is 219 or more, your handicap is 0.
**Note: This calculation can be revised each season. If you want it changed, come to the next pre-season planning meeting with your suggestion!
The default entering averages and handicaps for bowlers without a book average
are based on the men's and women's averages at the end of last season. This is
defined by a league rule.
For men in 08-09, the defaults are avg 163 (hcp 57). |
