Unisys Mixed Bowling League 200-2010

How to Calculate Handicaps

Handicaps in our league are figured on an individual basis. A team handicap is simply the sum of a team's bowlers' individual handicaps.

Handicap is not affected by the other team you bowl against. It's always "against yourself" and determined from one's own average.

Our league bylaws state that our handicaps are calculated as "90% from 220"**, which means "90% of the difference between your average and 220".  For example, if your average is 154, first subtract your average from 220, which gives 66. Then, take 90% of 66 (66 * 0.9), which is 59.4. Drop the decimal, and the handicap is thus 59.
(Tip: Always drop the decimal, even if it's .9!!)

If your average is 219 or more, your handicap is 0.

**Note:  This calculation can be revised each season. If you want it changed, come to the next pre-season planning meeting with your suggestion!

Default Entering Averages and Handicaps

The default entering averages and handicaps for bowlers without a book average are based on the men's and women's averages at the end of the previous season. This is defined by a league rule.

  Average Handicap
Men 163 51
Women 135 76
