Handicaps in our league are figured on an individual basis. A team handicap is simply the sum of a team's bowlers' individual handicaps.
Handicap is not affected by the other team you bowl against. It's always "against yourself" and determined from one's own average.
Our league bylaws state that our handicaps are calculated as "90% from 220", which means "90% of the difference between your average and 220". For example, if your average is 155, first subtract your average from 220, which gives 65 so the handicap is thus 58.
If your average is 220 or more, your handicap is 0.
**Note: This calculation can be revised each season. If you want it changed, come to the next pre-season planning meeting with your suggestion!
The default entering averages and handicaps for bowlers without a book average
are based on the men's and women's averages at the end of the previous season. This is
defined by a league rule.
