Position Round Next Week!
Next week December 10 is another position round and also the end of our season's first half. The team in first place at the end of the night will be the 1st Half Champion.
Note: On position rounds, absentee scores must be used for absent bowlers. Subs are welcome to participate but as pacers only. (Pacers' scores do not help the team they bowl with, even though their scores do count towards their own average.)Accomplishments
Jeff Shoemaker was the master of splits this week. He got the 8-10 (Game 1, Frame 7) and the 5-7 (Game 2, Frame 9). Also in Game 1, Jeff's 2nd ball in the 10th frame left two pins standing (possibly the 5 and 7) and stranded one pin in the gutter. His third ball was a miss, but it hit the dead pin, which then bounced up and took down the remaining two pins. A very cool shot, but too bad it didn't count!New Substitute Bowlers: Rob Ritchie and Ray Card
Rob is Jill Conway's nephew, and first bowled on Week 11. He is looking forward to bowling again, and asks to be thought of first when anyone needs a sub. Ray has not yet bowled with us, but bowls on another league with Ed Henderson. Ray is an experienced bowler and brings with him a book average of 174. Rob's and Ray's phone numbers are listed on the bowler and sub contact list.December Birthday Recognition

Did you know that pro bowlers on the PBA Tour have to deal with various lane oil patterns as a factor in their game? Oil can be applied in several different patterns for the pros and in a very basic pattern for general league play. Read more about oil patterns at: http://www.pbatour.com/laneconditions/default.aspLearn More About Bowling Lanes, Pins, and Equipment
Curious about what lanes are made of? How long they are? How much bowling pins weigh? Then visit the ABC/WIBC Specifications and Certifications Resource Center and click on "ABC/WIBC Equipment Specifications Manual". If you're still intrigued, consider becoming a certified lane inspector. There is a shortage of trained inspectors. Really.
Read http://www.bowl.com/bin/pdf/localinspmanual.pdf to learn what an inspector's duties are, then visit www.laneinspector.com for details of the training program.

The week prior to Thanksgiving has traditionally been "bowling for turkeys" day at Plaza Lanes, where one turkey (approx 10 lbs.) was awarded to the bowler on each team who bowled the highest over their average. This year Plaza Lanes is not awarding turkeys due to some concerns about whether they were staying safely frozen enough on delivery day. In place of turkeys, this year the award will be $10 cash, to the one bowler on each team who bowls highest over average for the night's 3-game series. Our "bowling for $10" day will be November 19.November Birthday Recognition
