First Half News and AnnouncementsPre-Season League Meeting on Wednesday Sept 3!
First night of bowling is Wednesday Sept 10!August 21, 2008
Roster Update
Confirmed: Nancy will be joining Ladies and the Tramp.
We're Growing! If you were keeping score about the roster issues, you'll see that with the additions of the Metaldyne and Fock n Pinz teams, we are at 11 teams! We still have a BYE team though, unless we can get that filled too. (And Mary still needs teammates!)
More about Certification Fees
The $19 that we each pay to USBC is broken down to national, state, and local organizations: $10 goes to the national-level bowling association, $1 goes to the state association, and $8 goes to our local association the Metro Detroit USBC.
Fees for any given association need be paid only once per season. That means if you bowl in another MD-USBC league (e.g. Jacks & Jills at Plaza), you don't need to pay the $10, $1, or $8 portions again. But if you bowl in a league under a different local association, such as Wayne-Westland, then you'd pay the $8 local to each league.
Whichever league you certify with first, pay that league the full $19. Then for any additional leagues you join after that, check with the secretary to see if you need to pay the $8 or not. Make sure that each secretary knows you are on another league, and which association it is in. This helps us to help the MDUSBC office sort out any mixups in membership and payments if needed.

Weekly Fees
Plaza Lanes is regretfully raising our weekly bowling fees. It is minor. From $6 per person per night, to $6.25. Over the course of our 26 week season, this 25 cent increase totals just $6.50 per person. We have been able to maintain our weekly dues at a constant $10 for quite a number of years, despite occasional increases by Plaza, which slowly has been eroding our team funds. So the officers agreed to a nominal change.
We will be maintaining the league prize fund and the weekly dues ($10) at the same level as last year. But to cover the increase in the house fees, i.e. the base cost of bowling, we are asking for a one-time payment of $10 at the start of the season from each bowler. This solution avoids increasing our weekly dues from $10 to an oddball number, and avoids dealing with $1 singles in change or coins.
We hope you understand this decision.
(Reminder that by the 3rd week of bowling [per our rule #12], you must pay your USBC fee, 1st week of bowling, last week of bowling, and the new $10 "surcharge". Total of $49.)Accordingly, we are also bumping up the cost of a substitute's weekly fee. We are raising this from the current $5 to $6.
The annual USBC certification fee remains $19. You will no longer be able to pay this fee by credit card when filling out the application card. (**You still can do so online at bowl.com - but if you pay that way PLEASE give me a copy of your receipt so I can prove to USBC that you have paid, when I send in the league application with everyone's member cards. Online payment does not connect you to a league.**)
Roster Updates
Still some juggling going on, but here is where things stand today.
Losses.
(a) We are losing Wendy from Ladies and the Tramp. We'll miss you!
(b) Nancy was considering stepping down from Beer Nuts. Beer Nuts found Rod to replace her, and now Nancy is able to bowl after all. Therefore Nancy needs to find a new spot.Gains.
(a) Our BYE team has people now. Plaza Lanes in their recruitment efforts, found an outside team for us. Team captain's name is Dave, and they have a connection to Metaldyne in Plymouth. Welcome aboard!
(b) Team Fock N Pinz (Chris, Reneé, and an unnamed 3rd) is returning! Their name is likely changing though. Welcome Back!! (By the way, this makes for an 11th team, if anyone is counting!!)
(c) Bob Olson wants to bowl, but is often out of town. He has expressed interest in joining Team Alley Oops as a 4th team member - under our league rule #15 (and also mentioned in rule #18) - to help out Kurt who also may not always be available but still wants to bowl.Needs.
(a) Team Trouble (Mary) has two vacancies. Can be two guys, or a guy and a woman.
(b) Here for the Beer still needs to fill their vacancy (must be male due to our roster rules).
(c) Ladies and the Tramp. With Wendy not returning, they have a spot to fill. Can be man or woman. Nancy offered to move here since Rod is now on Beer Nuts. Need confirmation from that team.Pre-Season Meeting
We need all bowlers' input for this meeting for votes. We have several rule changes to discuss and decide on.
It's your league and your rules -- your voice matters!!!

Held at Plaza Lanes in one of their party/meeting rooms (NOT in the bar; that's too loud).
