Final Results For 79th Annual DWBA City Tournament (April 10)
Bowling was completed on April 12, and all scores are tallied and posted on the DWBA web site (www.detroitwba.com). Our own Pink Ladies finished 20th in their division (Team 749 & Under Hcp), high enough to be listed in the results on the web site! They missed prize money by 6 places and just 31 pins. Their opponents, the Fab Five, did indeed take first place again this year.
31 pins? Ladies, we can do that! And then some!
Last Weekend For Local Tournaments
If you're in the mood for a little competition, the final sessions in two local tournaments are happening this weekend (May 21-22): the "9 is Fine" singles tourney (9-pin no-tap) in Toledo and the "Budweiser and Pizza" mixed tourney in Monroe. "9 is Fine" requires teams of all men or all women, and "Bud and Pizza" accepts mixed teams. Walk-in entries accepted for both events. Contact information for both events is posted on the tournaments page.

Pink Ladies Scores from 79th Annual DWBA City Tournament (April 10)
The morning's squads started about 1/2 hour late and play was slowed a bit by a few mechanical problems. Our 1:30 start time was consequentially delayed as well. We got underway probably about 2:15pm with a videotape of the National Anthem sung by Whitney Houston (played on the overhead scoring monitors). Turns out the team we shared a pair of lanes with won our division last year. They were a fun group of ladies from Renaissance Lanes on Woodward in Detroit.
Have you ever seen a rack or pinsetter break? We now have! The first failure was a bolt or connector that came loose on one side of the rack arms, and the front bar got loose and swept back across the setting pins in an arc, knocking them all over. The second failure happened during a re-rack. As the pinsetter was coming down, it sort of powered off and at the same time half the pins fell right out the bottom. Of course, these delays provided us unexpected short breaks to visit with our opposing team and get more popcorn. The wooden lanes were a challenge too, as they have seen much wear to the point of having warped or bowed boards, providing a track your ball was likely to follow, even though you might not want it to.
THANK YOU to Jill, Eddie, Vince, Tony, and Guyla for coming out to see us play and for your moral support. (And for the beer!)
