Fact: One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes. Is it someone you know?
The USBC is continuing the tradition of supporting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, with its Bowl For The Cure (BFTC) program. It's now a year-round effort as well, instead of being limited to the February/March timeframe. Special branded merchandise is available on the BFTC section of bowl.com. League members in the past have also solicited per-pin donations for games bowled on a given date. If you are interested in getting sponsors let me know and I will get the necessary sign-up sheets and receipts.

USBC Achievement Award
Dianne Zagor has racked up another award! Her Game 2 score of 252 earned a 250-game patch, available if a bowler's average is 170 or less.Confirming Your Scores
It was noticed again last night that some handicaps prefilled on the scoreboards are (still) not correct. Plaza Lanes has claimed no responsibility for making sure the data is correct, as we are not compensating them for "secretarial" duties. So, team captains are asked to verify the information before you begin bowling, and make any changes necessary.
And also, after each game, it is also the team captain's responsibility to ensure all scores on the scoreboards are written correctly onto the score sheets. Your signature on the score sheet indicates that you have double-checked the numbers.
There is a new report now on the standings page here that reflects the scores entered into our league software. Please check this report and ensure the numbers match any record you may have kept for yourself. If there is a discrepancy, please notify the other team captain and your league secretary as soon as possible.

Corrections to Week 4 Scores
We started off the night with bit of discrepancy regarding points earned last week between Comeback Kids and ZZTOD. The Board of Directors agreed that, because we would not have time to examine the score sheets before bowling, that all teams should bowl as paired and scores will be examined before entering Week 5 scores.
On Thursday Oct 12, the Treasurer and Secretary examined the Week 4 score sheets and the data in the secretarial software. Numerous math errors were found and corrected, none of which affected points or standings. (The misunderstanding over points won was based on incorrect game scores.) The team pairs as we bowled last night were valid. An updated Week 4 score sheet has been generated, and is posted for your review.
Note: Records (standing sheets, secretarial software, contract) are always open to all league members at any time. Just contact the secretary (Kathy) to arrange a time to meet.
New Data on Score Sheet!
If you notice that Page 2 of the Week 5 score sheet looks a bit busy, it's because new information has been added for each bowler. I got a request to show a change in average. Done.
- Anything else you might like to see? Just ask; good chance this software can do it.
- See any mistakes? Again, just contact the secretary ASAP. Corrections are made with approval by the team captain(s) and league officers.
New Score Results Report!
Another conversation I had recently was about including a review of scores and points won on the standings sheet. How about an entirely new report?! I found a way to generate this information in the secretarial software. This report is in PDF format and is available on the Standings page each week.Tip: If you can't open a PDF file, you need to install Acrobat Reader, which is a free download from www.adobe.com.

** October 2 Lane Assignment Changes - Effective on Week 4! **
Plaza Lanes called your league secretary this morning to inform us we are changing lanes AGAIN. The adjacent league has fewer teams and a pair of lanes has opened up. Plaza wants us immediately adjacent to them, no open lanes. Therefore, effective on Week 4 (October 4), our league has have shifted to start on Lanes 19-20.
If you have a printed copy of the lane assignments, subtract '2' from your lane -- or reprint the list from the lane assignment page here (it has been updated).

What Was Up With the Prefilled Scoreboards?
You may have noticed upon arrival that your names and handicaps were already entered into the scoring system. The counter staff did that for us. They had saved Week 1 results and used it to set up the scoring for tonight. However, most every team's handicap had been entered incorrectly, requiring manual correction. The handicaps on your score sheets WERE correct, as they came out of our own secretarial software. As long as individual scores were recorded correctly, team results and points in our software will be correct.
I will be working with the counter staff to give them the correct data so that Week 3 hopefully will be more accurate. Next week make sure you do double-check the pre-entered handicaps just to be sure and to avoid confusion while scoring.USBC Achievement Awards
Theresa Belser's Game 2 score of 188 earned a "180 game" patch. This award is yours if your average is 140 or less and you roll a score between 180-199.
Tip: Available awards are listed here on the bowl.com web site.Looking for Lucky Strike?
If you played tonight, you already know... Greg Skotzke will be running our Lucky Strike game while Denise Goldie is out on medical leave.

New League Members, Lineup Changes, New Team Names
Warm welcomes are extended to Renee Bugosh (Team Fock-N-Pinz) (yes, this team has returned!) and Wendy Cherry (Team Ladies and the Tramp, formerly called 2 Men and a Lady). Wendy replaces Ed Henderson, who is having surgery and will not be able to bowl.
Ray Card and Steve Brookins have spun off their own team, known as "Team 9" till they pick a name. (And with 9 teams, we now have a blind "bye" team again.) Kathy Wyrwas has come off of the injured list to rejoin Denise Dunn on Team Here For The Beer. Both of these teams still need a third bowler! Please spread the word. If you know of anyone interested in bowling with us, please let us know!
Team 3 Blind Mice has changed their name to Beer Nuts.
Note: If you wish to change your team name or bowling order, just write the changes on the score sheets. The secretary will make those changes effective for that week's bowling.
Lane Assignment Changes
The relocation to lanes 21-28 is permanent for this season, and was the decision of Plaza Lanes. Also, if you had printed the lane assignments page last week, you may want to reprint it. With the addition of Team 9 and a BYE team, we have additional lanes and the team pairings have been adjusted accordingly.USBC Achievement Awards
Several bowlers achieved 200 scores on this first week of the season. Only one qualified for an award from USBC, based on the bowler's average. Greg Skotzke earned the 200 game award (a keychain).September Birthdays
Celebrating this month are Wendy Cherry and Denise Dunn. (Don't forget that all birthdays are listed on the bday calendar page. The year isn't listed, just the day.)
