Week 28 "Top Scores" Challenge Results Posted
See the Week 28 information page for details.

Final Average Report and Award Summary Report Posted
To see these reports, return to the home page and click "Season-End Awards and Reports" in the Results column.

Banquet!
Don't forget -- Our banquet is next Friday April 13 at Atlantis restaurant. See the banquet information page for details and a map. If you have any issues or questions about league rules, there will be a "business" portion of the evening where you can address anything you'd like to see changed for next year.

Next Season
We've already signed our contract with Plaza Lanes for the 2007-2008 season – same night, same time, same number of weeks (28). Of course we'd like to see all bowlers return for next season, and even fill out that 10th spot in the league. Team captains, it's never too soon to plan your team for this fall, or to confirm your return with the league secretary.

March 31, 2007 – Tiebreaker for Position Standings

Teams "Here for the Beer" and "Alley Oops" had tied in points for overall season standings. The tiebreaker playoff was held March 31 at Plaza Lanes. Here For the Beer took 2 games and totals, putting them into 1st place in the season standings and Alley Oops in 2nd place.

Tiebreaker results posted here!  (PDF file)  and on the Final Standings page.
(If you can't open a PDF file, you likely need to install Adobe Reader. Download it FREE from here then install it.)

Week 27 – March 28, 2007

Week 28 Lane Assignments
Lane assignments for this week are manually assigned and are not printed on any standings sheet. Lanes to use and team pairings are printed on the tournament bracket form we will be using for that night's games. This bracket form is available on the Week 28 information page

Week 27 Doubles Results
Congrats go out to Sue Bushway and Chris Vance for bowling a combined 160 pins over average!! Full scoring results are now posted on the Week 27 doubles event page

Doubles Night Roll-Off Between 1st and 2nd Half Winners
Here for the Beer and Alley Oops were paired on Lanes 19-20 to vie for the Overall Season Champ. Here For The Beer took 2 games and totals, and therefore are the season champs.  **This is NOT to be confused with the overall winner for points in the position standings!

It just so happens the same 2 teams had been tied for points in the overall season standings, counting only Weeks 1-26. USBC Rule #113b dictates that such a tie be determined by an additional playoff series of games. The tiebreaker games will be played Saturday March 31 at 1:30pm.

USBC Achievement Awards
Renee Bugosh earned a 75 pins over average patch for her Game 2 score of 219.

Doin' The Splits
Sue Hodor made a 5-7 and a 5-10.

Week 26 – March 21, 2007

Alley Oops!  Congratulations to Guyla, Tony, and Kurt.

This year's banquet will return to a restaurant we haven't been to in quite a few years. It's "Atlantis", on Ann Arbor Road just east of I-275 (next to Denny's). See the banquet info page for full details.

Information For "Fun Nights" on Weeks 27-28

"Pink Ladies" Return to the Detroit Women's Tournament

You are all invited to come out Saturday April 21 at 1pm to Shore Lanes in Saint Clair Shores to give moral support to and drink beer with our Pink Ladies tournament team!  This year's Pink Ladies squad is Denise Goldie ("Frenchie"), Denise Dunn ("Cha Cha"), Jill Conway, Nancy Telling ("Winnie"), and Sue Hodor ("Suzy-Q"). Jill is taking over Kathy Wyrwas's ("Rizzo") spot since she can't bowl due to her recently broken arm.

This event is the first annual running of this tournament under the new Metro Detroit USBC organization, and would have been the 81st Annual under the now-defunct DWBA. Shore Lanes is located at 31100 Harper Avenue in St Clair Shores, just south of 13 Mile Rd.

Week 25 – March 14, 2007

Week 26 Marks End of Half and a Position Round
Subs are welcome, but they bowl only as a pacer. The team in 1st place in points at the end of the night will be the winner of the 2nd half, and will face 1st half winners Here For The Beer the following week for a roll-off and doubles tournament.

  • Click here for Doubles rules. e.g. how pairings are done, lane assignments, tie breakers, if results affect standings, etc. Please read and if you have any questions, ask now so we can resolve the issue before we bowl Week 27.

Kevin's Retirement
In case you missed the news, last week was Kevin's last on our league. It was time for him to move to his new home in Georgia for good. Thanks for many years of great bowling with us and many good times; you will be missed!!

Season Coming To a Close
Only 2 more regular weeks in the half remain. Week 26 (March 21) is the last night of the second half. The team in first place (points) at the end of the night is the winner of the second half. Week 27 (March 28) is the rolloff between the winners of the 2 halves, for the overall season champ, while all bowlers also participate in a fun doubles tournament. Week 28 (April 4) is our 2nd annual 1-game elimination tourney. Get practicing on those strike balls to end the season bowling the best you can!

"Bowl For The Cure" Season is Upon Us

Fact: One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes. Is it someone you know?

The USBC is continuing the tradition of supporting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, with its Bowl For The Cure (BFTC)  program. It's now a year-round effort as well, instead of being limited to the February/March timeframe. Special branded merchandise is available on the BFTC section of bowl.com. League members in the past have also solicited per-pin donations for games bowled on a given date. If you are interested in participating and getting sponsors let me know and I will get the necessary sign-up sheets and receipts.

USBC Achievement Awards
No new awards earned this week. But, a batch of goodies from previously earned awards has arrived and will be handed out next bowling night!

Doin' the Splits
Kathy Wyrwas made the 2-7.

Week 16 – January 10, 2007

Week 15 Scoring Correction
I regret to admit there was a scoring error made in Week 15. Yours truly was transcribing scores on Week 15, wrote one down incorrectly, somehow did not record totals for that game... The sheet got reviewed and signed off -- then when I went to enter the scores into our software the other day I found this error. It was Kevin's Game 3 score. The score written down (118) just was not in line with what that bowler normally scores, so I called him to ask. No, he did not bowl 118. I confirm his actual score from him and his teammates, and with their Week 15 opponents, and have now posted the corrected score reports. Sorry for any confusion.  And see why it is important to always have someone else double-check the score sheets...???!!! Don't be afraid to ask a question if you see something that does not make sense or is missing!

Annual Meeting of the Metro Detroit USBC Association
Just a reminder - it's this Sunday January 14. Read the details below under Week 15.

Computer Scoring Reminder!
Plaza Lanes is not responsible for the accuracy of averages or handicaps that are prefilled on the scoring computers each week. Please check your data before you start to bowl, to avoid a difference between the scoreboard and what is printed on the score sheets each week - and therefore preventing any misunderstanding of your results.

USBC Achievement Awards
No awards earned this week. But just wanted to mention that all awards earned to date have been turned into the MDUSBC office. If you have recently earned an award but have not received your goodies yet (they are mailed to the secretary, who will get them to you at bowling), they are in process and you should see them in a couple of weeks!

Doin' The Splits
John Oliverio made the 3-7 and the 5-7.

Week 15 – January 3, 2007

Annual Meeting of the Metro Detroit USBC Association
This meeting is open to ALL members of the Metro Detroit USBC Association. The planned agenda is the following:

  • Report on the progress of the organization since its inception on May 1, 2006.

  • Elect officers to the positions of Vice President, Youth Committee members, (5) Adult board members, and State Delegates to BA, WBA, and Youth state meetings.

All members are urged to attend and participate. Date, time, and location are:

  • When: Sunday January 14, 2007 @ 6pm

  • Where: Shriner's Auditorium. @ 24350 Southfield Rd, Southfield, MI 48075

2007 MDUSBC Women's Tournament

This would have been the 81st Annual DWBA Detroit City Tournament -- but since the DWBA no longer exists, the numbering has stopped. In any case, this is the women's tournament in which our Pink Ladies team has participated in the last several years. The Pink Ladies (Kathy "Rizzo", Denise D "Cha Cha", Denise G "Frenchie", Nancy "Winnie", and Sue H "Suzy-Q") are again participating.  Any other ladies out there interested in fielding a team for this event?

This year, it is being held at Shore Lanes in St Clair Shores (Harper Ave just south of 13 Mile Rd) and is $20 per bowler to enter. Bowling dates to pick from are March 24, 25, 31, and April 1, 14, 15, 21, 22, either 9am or 1pm each date. The entry form is available at Plaza Lanes and on the MDUSBC web site

2007 MDUSBC Mixed Open Tournament

New this year is a tournament for mixed teams. It is happening the exact same weekends as the Women's Championship (March 24, 25, 31, and April 1, 14, 15, 21, 22), but at a different venue. This one is at Century Bowl in Waterford and is $25 per bowler. There do not seem to be average Divisions as there are for the Women's tourney, so you would be bowling against everyone of all ability levels. The entry form is available on the MDUSBC web site

USBC Achievement Awards
Denise Goldie earned 2 awards: a 200-249 game patch for her Game 3 score of 234, and a 100-pins over average game award (which is a watch), again for her Game 3 score of 234.
Chris Vance also earned a 200-249 game patch for his Game 3 score of 211.
Congratulations!

Computer Scoring Reminder!

"When Do We Bowl?"
Bowling days and days off are listed in several places on this web site: the lane assignments page, the standings sheet page, and each week's standing sheet also includes a look ahead at the next two dates. There is no reason NOT to know when we have a week off or have a special event.  If any of your teammates do not have internet access to be able to read this site for themselves, please help them out. Print out the lane assignments sheet for them. Print out the news page for them. Let them know our days off, when we have special events coming up, etc. Team captains should make sure all their team members are kept informed. If you are reading this newsletter, you are one of the very few who do. Thank you.

Reminder: Holiday Bowling Schedule
We are OFF December 27. We are back on January 3. Any questions, refer to the Lane Assignments page or the standings sheet page

Start of the Second Half
Team points started over at zero tonight, so that second half standings are earned separately from the first half. The "season high" scores continue to accrue.

USBC Achievement Awards
Renee Bugosh earned a pair of awards tonight. Her Game 2 score of 202 gets her a 200-249 game patch, and her series score of 500 earns the 500 series pin. Congratulations!

Splitsville
June Cannon made the 3-9-10 split.

Did you knock down a cool split too?  Write it on the back of your score sheet, and I'll include it here!
