Tip! If you made a split or a washout and want to see it reported here, write it somewhere on your score sheet, front or back!Lucky Strike News
Our first installment of Lucky Strike was played on Week 2. Just a reminder that this game is "progressive" style again this season. Tickets not drawn on any given day will remain in the pot instead of being discarded each week. This means the more you play, the better your chances are of getting your ticket pulled!! When someone rolls the Lucky Strike, only then will all tickets be discarded. ~~ The Lucky Strike ball will be thrown on a different lane than your own!! Be prepared to bring your ball to the designated lane. ~~ Also, remember to write your name on the tickets you drop in the pot. This way you don't have to save your ticket stubs from week to week.USBC Achievement Awards
The Fall 2009 issue of US Bowler magazine described the change to this season's awards program. Most notable is that patches (emblems) have been replaced by magnets. Apparently bowlers are not sewing them on their clothing, so USBC feels that magnets that can be slapped onto any metal surface will be more likely to be displayed. Second most notable change is that awards for "pins over average", split conversions, Dutch 200, triplicate, and all-spare game have been eliminated. High game awards are still around, but the pin increments have changed.
You can see all of this season's available achievement awards on the Awards page at bowl.com, on the award application form. Go to http://www.bowl.com/awards/index.jsp and click on "Special Achievement" in the Award Applications section at the bottom of the page. For your reference, I'm including the info here:

Other News and Information:
Bowl.com has been redesigned. The navigation menu that used to be along the left side is now all at the bottom. (yeah right, first place I'd look.... NOT.) Friend them on social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. Also find them on YouTube (videos), Flickr (photos), and Digg (news feed).
Don't forget - at the pre-season meeting, we voted to change how we calculate our handicaps. It's still individual, but now it's 90% from 220 instead of 100% from 220. For an explanation and example, refer to our Handicaps page.
Watch the clock!! Lanes open for practice at 5pm, or should be open. If not, ask the counter to turn them on. Practice time is 15 minutes, and the lanes should switch over to game play at 5:15. Our contract with Plaza says we should be off the lanes (at least done with Game 3) by 7:15pm. The league behind us has the lanes per their contract at 7:30. Please pace yourselves so that we are not in their way and delaying their contracted start time. Thank you for understanding!!
If you bring in new bowler (sub or replacement), please please PLEASE give your secretary advance notice. It takes time to look up their average, get their handicap, enter them in the scoring system, and go over the certification card with them. I'd much rather do that in advance, instead of taking up your team's time and mine (and our opponents) and delaying us all from bowling. Thanks for your cooperation.
Pre-Season Meeting September 2, 2009
Agenda:
League officer final nominations and election
Team roster check
House rule reminders for 2009-10
League rule changes; discuss and vote.
Anything else? (open discussion)
Officer Elections: No new nominations (challengers) were received over the summer or brought up at the meeting. None of the current officers expressed interest in stepping down. Therefore, this year's officers will be the same as last year's.
Team roster check: Discussed who was leaving, and how many open spots we have. Looks like we have 9 active teams and one Bye/Blind team. Still have one Vacant spot that can be filled. The Bye team can also be filled. Please ask friends, neighbors, your kids' friends' parents, etc to see if anyone you know would be interested in joining us.
House rule reminders: Distributed copy of Plaza Lanes' house rules, which had been supplied to all league officers at their pre-season training in August.
League Rules: Discussed the three issues that were proposed last year. Click here for the issues and the resolutions. Changes will be incorporated into this year's league rules document, which is accessible from this web site's home page.
Anything else? Questions?
Santo suggested adding a new game, in addition to Lucky Strike and Mystery. This is a weekly over-average jackpot, based on highest scratch score over average. We discussed how the game would operate ($1 per game, Game 1 and/or Game 2), and voted. Accepted. See Santo each week to participate. Rules and results will be posted on the Games page here.
Reminder: USBC will no longer accept credit cards as a payment method on the certification application card. You may still use this payment method if you pay for your USBC membership online at bowl.com.
